Tim is the Ofcom Partner responsible for the regulation of content and standards. This covers the regulatory obligations in relation to basic standards (protection against harm, offence, and also the protection of accuracy, impartiality, fairness and privacy) that are placed upon all licensed tv and radio broadcasters and the BBC, as well as the special requirements placed upon public service broadcasters.
It also includes responsibility for Ofcom’s oversight of the radio sector and the development of digital platforms and content. He is a member of the Content Board and Deputy Chairman of the Radio Licensing Committee.He was one of the founding group of Ofcom partners in March 2003. Before that, he had spent a year as head of Broadcasting Policy in DCMS, responsible for the passage of the 2003 Communications Act. Tim started his broadcasting career in 1984 when he joined the BBC Radio Drama department as a producer. Appointments over the next fifteen years in the BBC included Editor of documentaries and features on Radio 3 and 4, producer and reporter on Newsnight, and finally Executive Editor of Current Affairs Programmes for television and radio.
